Horizontal directional drilling is one of the fastest growing trenchless techniques for cost-effective installation of pipelines, utilities and conduits under roads, railways, and water crossings. When compared to the open-cut method, HDD is less disruptive to the built environment and environmentally sensitive areas. This workshop will present the HDD process, tools and equipment. The industry’s leading experts will discuss the best practice guidelines for geotechnical investigations, drilling fluids, HDD project planning, and design, construction and QA/QC procedures. The workshop will be of interest to municipalities, water utilities, consultants, and contractors who would like to develop their expertise in this rapidly growing field.

  • Overview of HDD Technology, History and Applications
  • HDD Process
  • HDD Project Planning and Geotechnical Considerations
  • Drilling Fluids: Functions, Properties, and Testing
  • Bore Path Layout and Design
  • Plastic and Steel Pipe Design
  • HDD Design Tools
  • HDD Project QA/QC
  • Case Studies

* Materials, Lunch and refreshments included in the registration fee.
